Community Guidelines

At Saganworks, our mission is to help you organize, present and share your sagans with the world. That means showing you content that is relevant, interesting and personal to you, and making sure you don’t see anything that’s inappropriate or spammy.

These guidelines are our acceptable use policy and clarify what we do and don’t allow on Saganworks. If you come across a Sagan, KI (file), comment or message that seems to break these rules, you can report it to us. Where available, we look to external research and guidance from subject matter experts as we work to keep Saganworks safe.

Safety

Our team works hard to keep divisive, disturbing or unsafe content off Saganworks. Some types of content we delete, other stuff we just hide from public areas.

We remove porn. We may hide nudity or erotica.

  • Most artistic, scientific or educational nudity is okay on Saganworks. We may hide this and other explicit content from our community so people don’t run into it accidentally. Paintings, statues and other real world art, and content that shows breastfeeding or mastectomies are always okay.
  • We always remove images of explicit sexual activity or fetishes, and nude or partially nude people in sexually suggestive poses.

We remove content that physically or sexually exploits people. We work with law enforcement to address the sexualization of minors.

  • We don’t allow anything that promotes sexual services, like escorts, prostitution or sensual massages.
  • We’re particularly sensitive about exploitation and explicit content involving minors. If we find it, we’ll report it to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. We also remove nude photographs of anyone who appears to be a minor (except infants).

We remove images that show gratuitous violence or glorify violence.

It’s okay to post historic and newsworthy files (KIs) that raise awareness for current events. We may hide this content from public places so people don’t run into it accidentally.
  • We remove anything that glorifies violence, and we don’t allow posting files (KIs) that show violent or gory things for no good reason.

We remove content that displays, rationalizes or encourages suicide, self-injury, eating disorders or substance abuse.

  • This includes graphic images, images of instruments or tools people use for self-injury, and content making fun of or mocking people struggling with self-harm.

We remove hate speech and discrimination, or groups and people that advocate either.

  • Hate speech includes serious attacks on people based on their race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or medical condition. Also, please don't target people based on their age, weight, immigration or veteran status.

We remove content used to threaten or organize violence or support violent organizations.

  • We don’t allow anything that presents a real risk of harm to people or property. We also don’t want anyone making threats, organizing violence or encouraging others to be violent.
  • Any person or group that’s dedicated to causing harm to others isn’t welcome on Saganworks. That includes terrorist organizations and gangs. We collaborate with industry, government and security experts to help us identify these groups.

We remove attacks on private people or sharing of personally identifiable information.

  • We remove anything that identifies and attacks private people because we consider it to be bullying. We also don’t allow anything that reveals someone’s personally identifiable information or asks a minor for it.
If you come across a Sagan or KI with an unwanted photo of you or your personally identifiable info, you should ask the sagan owner to remove it. If that doesn’t work, you can report it to us. Our team will take a look and let you know if we remove it.

We remove content used to sell or buy regulated goods, like drugs, alcohol, tobacco, firearms and other hazardous materials.

  • Regulated goods are products that can cause harm to the owner or people around them when used incorrectly. Many countries have rules and regulations that apply to these types of products.
  • To keep you and our community safe, we don’t allow the private selling or buying of regulated goods like drugs, alcohol, tobacco, guns, or the sale of products from endangered species. If this sort of activity is reported to us, we’ll remove the content and may suspend the account owner.

We remove accounts that impersonate any person or organization.

  • We don’t allow accounts that impersonate or misrepresent their affiliation with any person or organization. If you have a fan or commentary account for a public figure or brand, make it clear that you aren’t affiliated with them.

We remove harmful advice, content that targets individuals or protected groups and content created as part of disinformation campaigns.

Don’t put harmful misinformation on Saganworks.

  • We don’t allow advice when it has immediate and detrimental effects on a user’s health or on public safety. This includes promotion of false cures for terminal or chronic illnesses and anti-vaccination advice.
  • We don’t allow misinformation about protected groups that promotes fear, hate and prejudice. This and other policies, including our hate speech guidelines, are designed to keep Saganworks a positive and welcoming environment for people of all backgrounds.
  • We don’t allow misinformation that attacks individuals and turns them, their families or their properties into targets of harassment or violence.
  • We don’t allow content that originates from disinformation campaigns targeted at Saganworks or other platforms.
  • We don't allow false or misleading content that impedes the integrity of an election or an individual's or group's civic participation, including registering to vote, voting, and being counted in a census.

  • Don't attempt to artificially manipulate distribution, clicks or other metrics, including but not limited to: buying or selling engagement, "stuffing" irrelevant keywords, generating inauthentic traffic, redirecting existing KIs or Sagans to new destinations, using fake or compromised accounts to perform coordinated actions.
  • Don't attempt to evade our anti-spam systems, for example, by using shorteners, redirects or intermediate websites to obscure a link's final destination.
